  2. Explanation of Formative assessment,
    Formative assessment formative evaluation, formative feedback, or assessment for learning,including diagnostic testing, is a range of formal and informal assessment procedures conducted by teachers during the learning process in order to modify teaching and learning activities to improve student attainment. The goal of a formative assessment is to monitor student learning to provide ongoing feedback that can help students identify their strengths and weaknesses and target areas that need work. It also helps faculty recognize where students are struggling and address problems immediately.
    DDefinition -Formative assessment or assessment for learning involves a continuous way of checks and balances in the teaching learning processes . The method allows teachers to frequently check their learners' progress as well as the effectiveness of their own practice, thus allowing for self assessment of the student. Practice in a classroom is formative to the extent that evidence about student achievement is elicited, interpreted, and used by teachers, learners, or their peers, to make decisions about the next steps in instruction that are likely to be better, or better founded, than the decisions they would have taken in the absence of the evidence that was elicited.

    Features of formative assessment-
    1)Formative assessment works along with the perspectives of assessment " for " and " as " learning; (2) Formative assessment is embedded with instruction; (3) Helping the students focus on the learning goal; (4) Diagnostic assessment on the target competency serves the function of formative assessment; (5) Formative assessment moves from determining discreet skills to integrated skills; (6) Using continuous and multiple forms of assessment; (7) Feedback practices using assessment results; (8) Working out with students to reach the learning goal; and (9) Deciding to move instruction to the next competency.

  3. Diagnostic assessment is the assessment that helps the teacher to find out the students skills and knowledge, strength and weaknesses of the learner. Teacher may guide lessons and curriculum planning. Diagnostic assessment plays an important role in solving the problem of the students. It is concerned with finding out the reason for persistent or recurring learning plan and difficulties to take a remedial actions.
    - feedback helps to enable the students to set specific learning goals.
    -diagnostic assessment helps in learning autonomy.
    - diagnostic assessment is used before teaching or when the problem arises after teaching.

  4. *Definition And meaning of assessment.
    Assessment of performance is a important and integral part of any learning teaching process for qualitative development of education and a scheme of collecting evidences of behavioural changes and judging the direction and extent of that changes .
    Assessment is the systematic collection, review, and use of information about
    educational programs undertaken for the purpose of improving student learning and
    development. (Assessment Essentials: planning, implementing, and improving
    assessment in higher education by Palomba and Banta 1999)
    It help to develop cognitive ,psychomotor and affective skills.
    On the basis of how it is used and how the results are interpreted, assessment is classified into
    different types.
    1. Placement Assessment
    2. Formative Assessment
    3. Diagnostic Assessment
    4. Summative Assessment
    Meaning of placement assessment:This assessment is done to find out whether the learner is capable to get the entry to possess the further learning in the course
    e.g entrance exam conducted before seeking admission for B.Ed.
    2.Formative assessment:This is a tool used by teacher to continuously monitor student progress in non threatening,supportive environment and also involve continuous feedback for teachers and learners.
    3.Diagnostic assessment: It is also used to improve learner experience and is inventory to find out how much the student know about a particular phase of subject matter.
    4.Summative assessment:It is carried out at the end of course of learning which help and measures how much a student learn from the entire course and usually a graded test.

Example of Diagnostic Assessment :- Diagnostic assessment is like pretest in which before taking whole unit or chapter or topic teacher tries to identify those area where student need more attention. For instance A teacher wants to teach unit name "State of matter" so before this teacher will check previous knowledge about the matter state by asking some question in class, then teacher comes to the conclusion that they have little knowledge already and accordingly will proceed further.
